On a sunny and near perfect fall day in Gary, Indiana, the Edgewater Systems/Edgewater Behavioral Health Services unveiled its new name and logo, Edgewater Health, during a ceremony at 1100 W. 6th Avenue on September 27, 2017.
Edgewater Systems/Edgewater Behavioral Health Services – known for more than 43 years for providing quality and diverse behavioral health services to the Northwest Indiana community—announced recently that it is changing its name to Edgewater Health. The name change reflects the organization’s broader health care commitment that now includes delivering a comprehensive set of primary care services.
“Simple and straightforward, Edgewater Health will be a big umbrella under which all of our services can thrive,” said Dr. Danita Johnson Hughes. “We are excited to expand to primary care services and this name will help us achieve this goal. Our scope of care has broadened, and we are pleased to have a name that complements this change. Edgewater Health signals an understanding that good healthcare takes both physical and mental health into account.”
The unveiling was well attended by community partners, citizens of Gary, as well as local and state elected officials. The event began with an invocation by Rev. Dwight Gardner, senior pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Speakers at the event included Dr. Danita Johnson Hughes, president and CEO of Edgewater Health; Dr. Sharon Johnson Shirley, Chairperson of the Board and Superintendent of Lake Ridge School Corporation; and State Rep. Charlie Brown.
Other dignitaries and notables in attendance included Justin Mount Regional Director for U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly; State Rep. Dr. Vernon Smith; and Lake County Prosecutor, Bernard Carter; Edgewater Board Member Attorney Jerome Ezell; former Edgewater Board Member Earl Smith; and Roosevelt Haywood, III.
The new name is effective immediately, and will be implemented across the organization’s product and services throughout the 2017 calendar year.
