Edgewater announces new Corporate Board Members

Edgewater Behavioral Health Services recently announced its newest Corporate Board Members: Dr. Regina Biddings-Muro, Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement for Purdue Calumet; Jonathan Anderson, President of Anderson Partners LLC, AP Development LLC; Ben Toles, General Manager at B. Coleman Aviation LLC; and Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter.

According to Dr. Danita Johnson Hughes, President and CEO of Edgewater, “I am so pleased to have such talent and diversity amongst the leadership of Edgewater. I am confident that these individuals will bring great value to Edgewater and the thousands of individuals we serve in and around Northwest Indiana.”

Dr. Regina D. Biddings-Muro works closely with the chancellor and other key leaders to connect corporations, foundations, alumni, and friends to philanthropic opportunities at the institution. Her work results in funding of more than $1.5 million annually in student scholarships, and fundraising to support a new intercollegiate athletics complex. In addition to university fund-raising, Biddings-Muro is responsible for Alumni Affairs, Marketing and Media Relations, and the University website. She joined the Senior Leadership Team at Purdue Calumet in June 2004.

Biddings-Muro earned a Doctorate of Education from Benedictine University in August 2015. She earned both Masters and Bachelor’s degrees in Communication from Purdue University Calumet.

Ben Toles is the general manager of the B. Coleman Aviation Center in Gary, Indiana. He started working at the very bottom of the aviation world and eventually worked his way up to general manager of his very own aviation center. He is carrying on the legacy of Bessie Coleman, the first female pilot of African American descent and the first African American to hold an international pilot license. In 2013, B Coleman Aviation opened to the public. B. Coleman Aviation is a major addition to the Gary/Chicago International Airport and is one of two fixed-based operators (FBO) located at the Airport.

Jonathan Anderson formed Anderson Partners LLC in January of 2010. Anderson concentrates his practice in community revitalization, including private investment utilizing New Market Tax Credits, Rehabilitation/Historic Tax Credits, and Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Indiana state tax credits and incentives.

Anderson has also represented cli-ents in construction and permanent financing and the acquisition, development and disposition of commercial office, retail, industrial and residential developments.

Anderson is a 1996 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1996 and a 1993 cum laude graduate of Indiana State University (History and Political Science). He was a law clerk for the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission after internships with Judge John P. Godich in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and U.S. Senator Richard G. Lugar, R-Ind.

Bernard A. Carter, as the Prosecuting Attorney for the 31st Judicial Circuit, which is Lake County, represents the State of Indiana and protects the people of Lake County from violence and crime by prosecuting and incarcerating wrongdoers to ensure public safety. A native of Gary, he was elected as Prosecuting Attorney in 1994 and has served in this position since.

He has long been active in community affairs, having served in many capacities with charitable associations, legal groups and professional organizations on both state and local levels. Of African-American heritage, Prosecutor Carter has earned many “firsts” – as the first elected Black judge in the history of Lake County; the first elected Black Prosecutor in the history of both Lake County and the State of Indiana; and the first elected Black President of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council for two terms.

Edgewater is a community mental health center, and is designated as a 501(c)3, non-profit organization. Located at 1100 West Sixth Avenue in Gary, Indiana.
