Democratic lawmakers demanded the appointment of a special prosecutor after FBI Director James Comey was fired on Tuesday and some key GOP senators said they were troubled by the timing of the sudden ouster by President Donald Trump.
“Now it’s even more important that an independent special counsel is appointed to investigate the Russian interference in our elections,” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said.
“In case the need for an independent special prosecutor to investigate #TrumpRussia ties wasn’t clear enough already … it sure is now,” Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley tweeted.
New York Sen. Charles Schumer used the word “cover-up.”
“If we don’t get a special prosecutor, every American will rightfully suspect that the decision to fire #Comey was part of a cover-up,” he added.
Trump shot back at the Schumer on Twitter.
Cryin’ Chuck Schumer stated recently, “I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer.” Then acts so indignant. #draintheswamp
