In an effort to avoid a four game sweep at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs would swallow another pill of disappointment after a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

In spite of a dominate performance by pitcher Yu Darvish,  who finished with 12 strikeouts on the day, Cardinals pinch hitter Jose Martinez would spoil his gem after a lead off triple in the top of the 9th inning to start a rally.

Following Martinez lead off triple, former Cub and 2016 World Series member Dexter Fowler tied the game at 2 on A RBI sacrifice fly.

After the sac fly by Fowler and rookie Tommy Edman singled and swiped second base , Cardinals slugger Paul Goldschmidt would put his team up for good. Smacking a rbi double down the third base line, giving the Cardinals a 3-2 lead and a four game series sweep.

Final score: Cardinals 3, Cubs 2

The four game sweep at Wrigley marks the first time since May of 1921 the Cardinals swept the Cubs at the historic ballpark.
