Members of the Gary and Northwest Indiana community attended a kick-off reception for the upcoming NAACP Gary Branch Life Membership Banquet. The reception, hosted by Gary Crusader Editor and Publisher Dorothy Leavell, was May 15 at the Gary Crusader Offices. Leavell is the honorary chairperson for the banquet. This year’s banquet will be Saturday, June 2 at the Genesis Convention Center. Guest speakers for the event are Loretta Lynch, former U.S. Attorney General, and the Honorable Gonzalo P. Curiel, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of California. Indiana Senator Eddie Melton is the Life Membership Banquet Chairman; Stephen Mays is the NAACP Gary Branch President.
