Community HealthNet Hurricane Harvey & Irma relief efforts

Community HealthNet Health Centers (CHN) and Representative Vernon G. Smith will be accepting donations at CHN’s five locations and at Beautiful Things Gallery (see list below for addresses) now until September 30 to help those in need that suffered from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The donations will be sent to The Fort Bend Church in Sugar Land, Texas. The church will provide the donations to survivors and to schools that were affected by the natural disasters. A Gary native that attends The Fort Bend Church and CHN had contacted Rep. Smith had asked if he would be able to assist in their efforts.

“It was a great match to have the two organizations contact me because I wanted to help with the relief efforts, as well,” stated Rep. Smith. “Dr. Janet Seabrook and her staff are assets to Lake County, IN in providing medical and behavioral health services. Dr. Seabrook and I felt it was our duty to offer help to those in Texas and Florida.”

Dr. Seabrook added, “Primarily, the church is looking for cleaning supplies such as buckets, trash bags, mops, contractor bags, and other items used in cleaning. They also are in need of toiletries, baby formula, feminine products, non-perishable food items, diapers-babies and adults (all sizes).”

CHN will be hosting their annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Walk on Saturday, September 30th at Marquette Beach and donations for the relief efforts will be accepted at the event.
