Civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker has died, according to reports. Walker is known in New York as senior pastor for 37 years at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem. He reportedly died on Tuesday in Chester, Va.
During the Civil Rights Movement, Walker was a chief of staff for Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1958 Walker became an early board member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
In a statement, Rev. Al Sharpton said Walker was instrumental in the National Action Network.
