Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke faces new charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
According to an indictment unsealed Thursday, March 23, 16 counts of aggravated battery — a count for each shot fired at the 17-year-old McDonald on Oct. 20, 2014 — the report stated. Van Dyke has already been charged with first-degree murder stemming from the incident.
Van Dyke’s attorneys have filed two motions — in January and February — to have the charges against their client dropped.
