Chicago City Clerk Susana A. Mendoza to open City Clerk locations for special Saturday hours, city vehicle sticker deadline looming on June 30

Chicago City Clerk Susana A. Mendoza announced today that all City Clerk locations will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 2.

The special weekend hours are to help motorists whose vehicle stickers expire at the end of June avoid being ticketed over the long holiday weekend.

Beginning July 1, 2016 at 12:01 am, changes to the Chicago Municipal Code regarding the grace period will make motorists with a June renewal month eligible to be ticketed immediately following their vehicle sticker’s expiration. The $200 tickets for failure to display a city sticker can be issued daily.

Although vehicle stickers are now sold year-round, many Chicago seniors are still required to renew each June. Mendoza said that she wants motorists to avoid tickets and additional fees at all costs.

“We are always looking to accommodate our customers. This is a low-cost way to help motorists and, with the long weekend holiday coming up, we want to give people an extra chance to buy their stickers,” she said.

City offices are closed on Monday, July 4. While customers have only a three-hour window on Saturday, vehicle stickers are available at over 350 locations citywide, including currency exchanges, some of which are open 24-hours.

Motorist will not face a late fee from the City Clerk’s office for purchasing their stickers on Saturday.
The grace period for late fees will be extended from 15 to 30 days effective July 1. A motorist with a vehicle sticker expiring June 30 will have until July 30 to purchase a sticker without paying a $60.00 late fee.
