Celebrities walk the red carpet in Chicago for ‘Barbershop 3: The Next Cut’

By Jake Hamilton, Fox 32 Chicago

On Monday, celebrities walked the red carpet for a movie set in Chicago.

It is ‘Barbershop 3: The Next Cut,’ and while it’s a comedy, it tackles the serious issue of violence.

The movie stars Chicago native Common, Ice Cube, Anthony Anderson and Nicki Minaj, along with many others.

The comedy focuses on the men having to share their barbershop space with a women’s salon on the South Side.

The movie also faces down gang violence and how it can lure kids in.

“Laughter is important especially when you’re dealing with something as heavy as what’s going on here in Chicago and what’s depicted in the film,” Anthony Anderson said.

“Chicago is such an amazing place so to see the violence and the imminent threat, I think it affects all of us. It might just be happening in Chicago, but it affects everyone,” Regina Hall said.

The first two Barbershop movies were filmed in Chicago, but this one was mostly filmed in Atlanta. It opens in theaters on April 15.
