Celebrate ‘Da Region’ at 219 Day

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the 219 Day Committee invite all region residents over 21 years of age to join the fun, weird and wacky event that celebrates everything Region, 219 Day. The 219 Day is at the Hammond Civic Center on Saturday, February 17 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. This year, the event’s theme is “Feats of Strength.” There will be a Gladiator Joust, Punching Arcade, Thumb Wrestling, Tattoo Contest, Climbing Wall, Selfie Booth, Region Rat Piñata and more. The event is free admission.

The live entertainment includes Rico Hampton as Michael Jackson, Nomad Planets and The Crawpuppies. The DJ for the evening is Well, Turn it Up! Entertainment.

Various Region craft beers will be available for only $5 each, along with some wine and Pepsi products for the non-beer consumer. Food vendors exclusive to the Region will be on hand as well. Some include: Ladies Gourmet Popcorn, Solitas Puerto Rican Food, Jodie’s Italian Ice Factory and Zel’s Roast Beef.

T-shirts for the event are available for purchase at www.219day.com. This year, there will be two versions available. Both 2018 shirts and past T-shirts will also be available for sale at the event.

Be sure to sign the “You Know You’re From ‘da Region If…” board posted all round the Civic Center. For those who need a ride, a free shuttle bus, and compliments of Frank J.
