Camelot Illinois Awards Grants To Genesys Works Chicago And The Black Star Project

Camelot Illinois announces two non-profit organizations have received funding from the Camelot Illinois Grant Program to benefit local communities.

“We are thrilled to continue supporting impactful causes through the Camelot Illinois Grant Program. As a company that values corporate social responsibility, Camelot is proud to work with The Black Star Project and Genesys Works Chicago to provide our community’s youth with opportunities for academic and career advancement,” says Keith Horton, General Manager and General Counsel of Camelot Illinois.

Genesys Works Chicago has received $15,000 in grant funding to put towards the cost of enrolling 200 Chicago Public School students into the program’s 11th class of young professionals. Genesys Works provides high school students in underserved communities with pathways to successful careers. The organization’s 10-week programs provide technical and professional skills training, paid corporate internship experience, college and career coaching, and ongoing alumni support to move students out of poverty and into professional careers.

“Our work is driven by a vision of a future when all youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success in high school, college, and beyond, ensuring a lifetime of economic self-sufficiency,” says Kim Day, Executive Director of Genesys Works. “Genesys Works’ program serves as the bridge between classroom knowledge and an in-demand career. By supporting the technical and professional skills training of our Young Professionals, Camelot Illinois is helping us provide students a scaffolding upon which a financially sustainable future can be built.”

The Black Star Project, an organization that improves the academic performance of Illinois students in less-advantaged communities, has received $10,300 in grant funding from the Camelot Illinois Grant Program. The grant will be used to support the purchase of state-of-the-art computers and education software.

“As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, support from Camelot Illinois helps to ensure our critical work continues throughout this period and beyond,” states Gloria Smith, Executive Director of The Black Star Project. “We understand that our students are facing unique challenges and this grant will address important technology and online learning needs. We greatly appreciate Camelot’s support and look forward to this wonderful partnership.”

The Camelot Illinois Grant Program promotes community and neighborhood development by funding programs that foster educational opportunities and support technological initiatives. Grants are awarded to eligible non-profit organizations four times per year. Annual grant reviews take place in January, April, July, and October.
