Business leader Stacy Leak announces candidacy for Matteson Village Trustee

STACY LEAK

Prominent businessman Stacy Leak, of the renowned Leak & Sons Funeral Homes, has officially entered the race for Village Trustee in Matteson, Illinois. Leak joins an established slate led by Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin, which includes Trustee Adam Shorter, Trustee Carolyn Palmer, and Village Clerk Yumeka Brown.

Mayor Chalmers-Currin expressed strong support for Leak’s candidacy, citing his extensive experience in business and deep understanding of the Southland’s political landscape. “We are well pleased with Mr. Leak’s addition to our slate. He brings a wealth of experience, success in business, and a keen sense of the political culture in the Southland. If successful, he will be a welcomed addition to our village board,” the mayor said.

Leak’s career began at just 17 years old, working for his father, Spencer Leak Sr., at the family-operated Leak & Sons Funeral Homes. His early exposure to the industry laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to service and community engagement. Pursuing his interest in media, he earned a B.A. in Television Production from Columbia College Chicago and later worked at ABC 7 Chicago before serving as an executive assistant to Judge Greg Mathis on the Judge Mathis television show for 18 years.

Currently, Leak serves as Chief of Staff at Leak & Sons Funeral Homes, overseeing operations at locations in Chicago, Country Club Hills, and Matteson. His leadership has reinforced the family business’s reputation for excellence while also fostering new opportunities for community engagement. Leak is also an active member of Matteson’s Housing and Human Relations Commission.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Leak emphasized his commitment to supporting the village’s progress. “I am grateful, honored, and blessed for this opportunity to join the mayor’s slate in my run for Matteson Village Trustee. Matteson continues to be a regional leader in municipal excellence, led by Mayor Chalmers-Currin. I have always admired her leadership and her ability to coalesce people from different perspectives for the common good of the village. I am excited to join Clerk Brown, Trustee Shorter, and Trustee Palmer in this important run for elected office,” said Leak.

If elected, Leak aims to enhance transparency and communication between village leadership and residents. Drawing from his business expertise, he plans to advocate for economic growth by supporting local businesses, attracting new investments, and ensuring Matteson remains a thriving center for commerce and job creation.

“As a proud resident of Matteson, I have personally experienced the value of living and working in this community. Living in Matteson was instrumental in the decision to expand our family business here,” said Leak.

Leak will appear on the ballot for Matteson Village Trustee in the April 1, 2025, General Election.
