Bulls snap five-game skid with victory over Nuggets

Bulls Guard Coby White (#0) shoots a layup following his return from injury in the 150-147 double overtime loss against the Utah Jazz.

The Chicago Bulls navigated one of their most brutal and emotionally draining weeks of the season, extending a painful losing streak that threatened to derail their early season progress before delivering an improbable, season-saving victory on the road. The four-game stretch saw the Bulls fall to 6-6 before their dramatic Monday night win pushed them back to a 7-6 record. It was a test of resolve, marked by an embarrassing loss, a double-overtime heartbreaker, and finally, a monumental triumph.

The week began at home on Monday, Nov. 10, with a narrow 121-117 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The defeat was tough to swallow, characterized by a lack of late-game execution that had plagued the team early in the season. Kevin Huerter and Nikola Vucevic delivered solid offensive efforts, but the team’s defensive intensity dipped in the final frame, allowing the Spurs to pull away. This was the third consecutive loss, and it set a disheartening tone for the difficult road swing ahead.

The true low point arrived two days later. On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Bulls traveled to Detroit and suffered a 124-113 defeat to a severely depleted Pistons team. Facing a squad missing several key rotation players and sporting one of the league’s worst records, Chicago delivered an effort that drew immediate and widespread condemnation from fans and commentators alike.

The team lacked energy and focus from the opening tip, allowing Detroit to control the tempo and seize a lead that Chicago never seriously threatened. Head coach Billy Donovan spoke candidly after the loss, describing the performance as unacceptable and questioning the team’s mental fortitude. The loss marked their fourth straight and signaled that the team was reeling as they headed further west.

The five-game slide culminated in a Sunday night epic in Salt Lake City against the Utah Jazz. The game turned into a marathon shootout, ending in a devastating 150-147 double-overtime loss. Despite the result, there were significant positive takeaways. Guard Coby White returned to the lineup after missing time with a calf strain and immediately provided a spark, scoring 27 points in a highly efficient performance. Josh Giddey delivered one of the best statistical nights of his young career, posting 26 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, his second triple-double of the season. The contest featured multiple clutch shots and dramatic momentum swings, but the Jazz secured the win on a deep three-pointer in the final seconds of the second extra period, extending Chicago’s losing streak to five games and casting a dark cloud over the organization.

The ultimate test of character came less than 24 hours later, on Monday, Nov. 17, as the Bulls squared off against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets in Denver, Colorado, on the second night of a back-to-back. With the team at its nadir, trailing by as many as 18 points and facing a five-game slide, the game appeared headed for a predictable result. However, the Bulls delivered a stunning display of tenacity, rallying from the large deficit and a 13-point hole in the fourth quarter to secure a thrilling 130-127 victory.

The comeback was orchestrated largely by the second unit, which delivered a staggering performance. The Bulls’ bench outscored Denver’s reserves by a margin of 66-9, injecting energy and scoring when the starters sputtered. Guard Ayo Dosunmu was the catalyst, tying for the team scoring lead with 21 points on an incredibly efficient eight-of-nine shooting from the field, while Jevon Carter knocked down five three-pointers for 15 points.

In the final, decisive minutes, Chicago leaned on veteran execution, with Kevin Huerter and Nikola Vucevic both drilling clutch three-pointers over the outstretched arms of Denver defenders. Josh Giddey remained red-hot, logging a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The victory, which also snapped the Nuggets’ own seven-game win streak, provided a massive emotional lift and a critical palate cleanser following a week of crushing defeats. The team returns home having proven that despite their recent struggles, they possess the talent and grit to compete with the league’s elite, offering a crucial lifeline to their struggling season.
