Another amazing Black woman in Hollywood can now add her name to the history books.

Ushering in the second win of the night for Marvel’s Black Panther, Hannah Beachler snagged the award for Best Production Design. The honor makes Beachler the first Black person to be nominated in the category, as well as the first Black person/Black woman to  win.

Taking to the stage in a gorgeous red gown, Beachler immediately thanked the film’s director Ryan Coogler.

“I stand here stronger than I was yesterday. I stand here with agency and self-worth because of Ryan Coogler,” she said. “You not only made me a better designer… [but] a better person. I stand here because of this man who offers me a differed perspective on life.”

The Ohio native & Wright State University film school graduate also took a moment to offer words of gratitude to the star-studded Black Panther cast.

“Thank you to this wonderful cast who everyday stepped into this world and breathed life into it,” she said.

Beachler closed out her heartfelt speech with the empowering quote, “I did my best and my best is good enough.”

Beachler’s previous credits include Fruitvale Station and Creed, among others.
