Several hundred members of Black Lives Matter Global Network and other local activists organizations came together this evening in Minneapolis, MN for a night of unity and resistance against Super Bowl and its harmful impacts on people of color in America.

“Tonight’s action shows that we mean business. The Super Bowl is not a national security event but rather a national security crisis,” said Miski Noor, organizer with the local chapter of the BLM Network, Black Visions Collective. “We aim to hold The City of Minneapolis and the NFL accountable for fueling conditions that promote the destruction of Black, Brown, and poor communities. The city has failed to provide critical resources such as mental health, protections for sex workers, affordable housing, jobs, and education, and instead poured money into the pockets of big corporations who benefit from the Super Bowl like U.S. Bank. We demand the city of Minneapolis stop playing and start paying!”
The rest of the week will include a rent strike action featuring several local community members, a unity people’s party for Black joy, and protests calling for DACA renewal that will culminate the day of Super Bowl LII.
