On February 28, 2019, the Xinos and Kudos partnered with the Merrillville Boys and Girls Club of Merrillville for “Literacy Night.”
The Beta Mu Chapter of Xinos and Kudos, is a youth guidance group sponsored by The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. One of the groups’ annual initiatives is to organize community programs to promote education.
Amaya Butler (Xinos) and Paul Lopez (Kudos), led the youth group by spending the evening reading to the children participating in the after school program. The Xinos and Kudos also listened as the children read stories to them. At the end of the program the Xinos and Kudos talked to the children about the importance of reading and the children were gifted with books and bookmarks to take home.
This is one of many service projects the Xinos and Kudos organize throughout the year in Gary and other Northwest Indiana communities. These youth groups are exemplary examples of young people making a positive impact on the world. The leadership, which guides the youth in the community programs includes Onitta Parker, Basileus of the Sorority; Keisha Odum-Hagan, Xinos advisor and LaFonda Morris, Kudos advisor.
