Bears name Matt Feinstein Director of Football Administration

In a recent announcement last month, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles hired Matt Feinstein as the team’s new director of football administration.

According to the Chicago Bears, Feinstein joins the team’s personnel department with seven years of NFL experience. He most recently served as the NFL’s Director of Labor Operations, a role he was promoted to in January of 2022.

Prior to his promotion, Feinstein worked as a senior manager for the NFL’s Management Council for four years (2018-22), after serving in a managerial role for three years (2016-18).

In his six years in a managerial role for the NFL Management Council, Feinstein constructed quantitative models of collectively bargained roster and salary rules, refined and improved models for time-sensitive analyses, and distilled results into summaries for senior League management, as well as Club management and ownership.

Feinstein joined the NFL Management Council in 2015, when he was hired by the League to serve as an analytics assistant. In this role, he executed League-wide player transactions, reconciled salary caps and ensured compliance with League rules. He also worked to identify trends in player transactions, roster management, player contracts and club spending, among other tasks.

A University of Michigan graduate, Feinstein earned his degree in mechanical engineering in 2010. Prior to his NFL career, Feinstein spent six years at Lux Research in New York, where he worked as an analyst (2010-13) before his promotion to senior analyst for his remaining three years with the organization (2013-15).

While serving as a senior analyst for Lux Research, Feinstein began his career in sports, working as a contributing writer for Bloomberg Sports for two years (2013-14).

A native of Commack, N.Y., Feinstein is married to Mimi.
