Bears General Manager Ryan Poles looks to bounce back after disappointing season

To close out their 2024-25 NFL season, Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles addressed the media in January about the future of the team.

During the press conference, Poles took a moment to thank (Interim Head Coach) Thomas Brown.

“He was put in a really tough situation,” said Poles via press release. “[He] Was given a lot of responsibility as the season went along, and I thought he handled it with poise, with command. I thought he did a great job leading, just watching him inside the team meeting room, seeing him address the team, I thought they did a great job bringing accountability to the forefront. Being a truth teller was really important at that time.”

Following his comments on Brown, Poles addressed the fans.

“I want to thank our fans for their support and their patience. I understand their frustrations with where the team is right now. They have my word, I’m doing everything I can and we are as an entire group to get this thing back on track, and headed in the direction it needs to be, and they can take pride in their team.”

On defense, Poles showed the utmost respect to DB Jaylon Johnson.

“I want to give a special shout out to (DB) Jaylon Johnson for making the Pro Bowl for the second year,” Poles said. “That’s no surprise from anyone in our building. His preparation, his detail, his process is always on point. That’s allowed him to be successful and consistent.”

On Poles future with the team….

“To make the progress that’s needed. I’m grateful for (Chairman) George (McCaskey) and (President/CEO) Kevin (Warren) and their trust in me to continue to get this thing back on track and get it corrected,” Poles said.

He added: “I do want to address some of the things that I’ve heard about the relationship between Kevin and I that couldn’t be further from the truth. We spend almost every single day together talking to him about solutions and direction of where we want to be and where we’re going to go. It is so far from the truth, it was a little disappointing to hear that to be honest. We do have the strong core that we’re going to get with the right staff and make things happen.”

Up next for Poles and the organization, the team hopes to hire their next head coach. Several former head coaches have already interviewed for the position during the search process.
