Former president of the Gary school board Rosie Washington is hosting a back to school giveaway. The giveaway is in honor of her late grandson, Jalyn Jones.
Sponsors of the event include The Love for Jalyn Foundation, Gary’s Back to School Festival Committee and J’s Breakfast Club.
Gary has around 70,000 residents and of those residents an estimated 20,000 are students. Those students range from preschool to high school age. An unfortunate truth is that many students return from summer break without the adequate supplies for school.
This event is aimed towards assisting students through providing the necessary tools and supplies that will ensure their academic success.
The back to school event will be held on July 14th at J’s Breakfast Club, 3669 Broadway in Gary, IN. The event time will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Free school supplies will be provided to the first 100 students along with free haircuts, face painting, balloon therapy and more.
