Artist, Actor and Philanthropist COMMON joins Allstate Insurance Company and the Tom Joyner Foundation to support HBCUs

By Allstate Insurance Company/PRNewswire

As students prepare to head back to campus this fall, Allstate Insurance Company is encouraging alumni and supporters of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to protect the legacy of HBCUs and their students by participating in the company’s annual Quotes for Education (QFE) program. In its eighth year, Allstate will donate up to $250,000 in scholarship funds to the Tom Joyner Foundation to assist students attending HBCUs.

Between August 1 and November 30, 2016, Allstate will contribute $10 for every person who mentions “Quotes for Education” when receiving an insurance quote from a participating Allstate agent, or quotes online at www.allstate.com/HBCU.

“Allstate Insurance Company and the Tom Joyner Foundation are passionate about investing in the aspirations of HBCU students to ensure that they become successful HBCU graduates,” said Cheryl Harris, senior vice president at Allstate and an alumna of Florida A&M University. “HBCUs are a vital part of our country’s history and they continue to have an undeniable impact on their students, graduates and the larger African American community.”

To launch the 2016 QFE program, Allstate and the Tom Joyner Foundation are teaming up with award-winning artist, actor and philanthropist, COMMON, a long-time supporter of the HBCU community. As a devoted advocate for education, the Chicago-native founded the COMMON Ground Foundation, a nonprofit organization that empowers underprivileged youth in Chicago through education initiatives.

“Growing up in Chicago, my mother, an educator and principal, always stressed the importance of education. I see how difficult it is for some students to stay in school and also get a higher education, when they don’t have the resources,” says COMMON. “That’s why I’m proud to support Allstate and the Tom Joyner Foundation on a program that is working to address this issue and support the larger HBCU community.”

Allstate will be the lead sponsor of AAHH FEST! by COMMON, which is a two-day music festival in Chicago on September 24-25. Proceeds from our festival support youth education and mentoring programs.

Since 2009, Allstate has donated more than $1 million representing over 500 student scholarships distributed to HBCU students through the QFE program.

Allstate’s year-round commitment to programs that empower the African American community include its 12-year history of being the title sponsor of the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion, in addition to its QFE partnership with the Tom Joyner Foundation.

Founded in 1998 by nationally syndicated radio personality, Tom Joyner, the Tom Joyner Foundation supports HBCUs with scholarships, endowments and capacity building enhancements. To help sustain and preserve the legacies of HBCUs, the Foundation has supported more than 29,000 students attending HBCUs, recommending internships and career development to its students.

“HBCUs are a big part of me and my family and so many politicians, athletes, entertainers, educators, doctors, scientists and engineers who are so successful today,” says Tom Joyner, a Tuskegee University alumnus and chairman/founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation. “Together with Allstate, we’re encouraging HBCU alumni to give back in an effort to preserve this amazing legacy and provide students the financial freedom needed to focus on their education.”
