Annual church picnic includes photo shoots for members

St. John Baptist Church, which is currently celebrating 100 years of service to the community this year, recently held its annual church picnic. The picnic was held July 14 at Lake Etta County Park in Gary for nearly 100 church members and their families.

Various church committees organized this year’s event, which included traditional picnic food, homemade ice cream, and games. The Lake Etta location offered indoor and outdoor fun and relaxation for the attendees, as well as fishing in the lake. To continue the spirit of the anniversary celebration attendees had the opportunity to be photographed in an actual picture frame with 100th on the top.

St. John Baptist Church was founded in the city of Gary in 1918. From that time until now, it has remained a pillar in the community.

Regardless of church affiliation, St. John has endeavored to assist and serve people in need through its numerous church ministries. Over the years, it has also played a role in fighting for equal employment opportunities as well as fair housing within the Gary community and surrounding areas.

Reverend R.E. Robinson serves as the Senior Pastor of St. John Baptist Church. He has labored in this capacity since September 2015.

St. John Baptist Church’s 100-year anniversary will culminate on Friday, September 21, 2018 with a Black Tie dinner at Marquette Park. Reverend Dwight E. Mobley, Sr., the pastor of Van Buren Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker for the affair. For more information contact the church office at (219) 886-7769.
