Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. members celebrate 100 years

CATHYNE RUSSELL HAD two celebrations for her 100th birthday: an intimate party at Smith Village with her neighbors and a larger party at the AKArama Community Service Center, where she is a Lifetime Diamond member of the Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The honoree’s guests included local and out-of-town family members and friends from various parts of her life, i.e., sorority, church, Tennessee State University alums, neighbors, hometown connections, and other extraordinary people she’s met over the last 100 years. The festive afternoon included a delicious meal catered by Bert’s Jerk, a montage of memorable pictures, a look back on interesting facts from 1925, and touching videos from those who could not attend. The party ended with a toast, birthday cake and a serenade of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. national hymn by her sorority sisters. (Photos by Captured Photography)
