Adler Planetarium first ever Adler After Dark: Family Edition!

The whole family is invited to experience why space is freaking awesome after-hours at the first ever Adler After Dark: Family Edition at the Adler Planetarium on Friday, August 5, from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

*Adler Photo2 doane-telescope-1Like the 21+ version, Adler After Dark: Family Edition visitors will receive full access to all museum exhibitions, unlimited sky shows (including the Adler’s newest sky show, Planet Nine), telescope viewing, and live entertainment! And unique to this event is the kiddie-cocktail bar (and adult version), all-ages hands-on, minds-on experiments, and special character visitors. This family-friendly event is the best way to see all the museum has to offer that is convenient for the whole family.

Program highlights include:

Zipline Challenge

Put on your engineering hat, explorers! Design and build a vehicle out of LEGO pieces that can deliver supplies to your base on an alien planet.

Whole-Body Sensory Station (weather dependent)

Use your eyes, fingers, and ears during a visual exploration of bubbles, a tactile experience using slime, and an auditory investigation of instruments.

Astro iSpy

Can you spy with your little eye some odd objects in the museum’s collection? Go on a stellar scavenger hunt through the exhibits for your chance at a far-out prize!

Storytime with Curious George!

Go on an outer space adventure with your favorite monkey, Curious George, at this interactive storytime experience!

Telescope Viewing (weather dependent)

Get up close and personal with some celestial targets in tonight’s sky using a telescope. Or, visit the largest public telescope in the Chicago area—the Doane Observatory.

The Galactic Empire has invaded Adler After Dark! Take a photo with a Storm Trooper or Darth Vader himself (no Rebels allowed).

littleBits

Try your hand at building an “inchworm” robot and other fun bot challenges with littleBits, a simple electronic building block system with almost limitless possibilities.
