79th Street Corridor Business Association announces its Second Annual Safe Summer Series Kickoff

The 79th Street Corridor Business Association is pleased to announce its Second Annual Safe Summer Series Kickoff that will begin with a Peace and Safety Walk on June 18, 2016. Three hundred men are expected to join the Peace and Safety Walk. The group will walk on both sides of the streets where there will be community, city and state support. In addition, there will be a 3 on 3 basketball competition hosted by Books over Balls. Representatives from Nike and the Bulls Organization will join also.

Peace & Safety Walk: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting at the Taylor Funeral Home and end at the Regal Theater (79th S. Stony Island Ave.) with a rally

The 79th Street Corridor Business Association is working towards keeping 79th Street safe for the children by uniting the surrounding businesses and adults. Bringing productive activities as an alternative to destructive activities will hopefully curb the violence. During our Safe Summer Series, we will occupy specific corners on Friday evenings from 6 to 8 pm for 10 weeks. Pop-up resource centers, along with DJ’s, Spoken Word and Percussionists will be present for the events. Water, fresh fruit, and a farmer’s market will be available. The surrounding neighborhood areas will be cleaned up and the neighbors will be provided with a safe summer placard for their windows.

Many invited guest are expected to attend in support of the 79th Street Business Association such as the Congressman Bobby Rush, Alderman Greg Mitchell, Alderman Rod Sawyer, Alderman Michelle Harris, Josephine Wade, Captain Hard Times Restaurant, Breaking Bread, TCA Health, CAPS, Project 5000, Kids Off the Block, Universal Youth Outreach Foundation Chatham Business Association, New Life Covenant Church, 3C, RAGE and The Regal Theatre.
