5th Annual Back To School Jamboree

The Salvation Army Gary/Merrillville Corps and Carter Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church recently announced its 5th Annual Back to School Jamboree presented by Ashley Furniture HomeStore.

Activities will begin at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army (4800 Harrison St., Gary) on Monday, August 6. K-12 students who attend will receive school supplies, health screenings from Northshore Community Health Center, as well as snack packs from the Northwest Indiana Food Bank while supplies last. Additionally, there will be a Resource Fair with representatives from community organizations to exhibit their services and/or products.

BooksAshley Furniture HomeStore has previously donated 50 twin-bedding sets to ensure youth start the school year well rested with new twin bedding sets. Through their Hope to Dream program, Ashley offers a child a twin mattress set, pillow and comforter (a $650 value).

Ashley HomeStore believes that every child deserves a good night’s sleep. Founded in 2010 on that guiding principle, Ashley HomeStore’s “Hope to Dream” program provides beds to less fortunate children across the U.S. and Canada. A portion of the proceeds for every mattress purchased at a participating Ashley HomeStore helps pay for a bed for a child in need. Since its inception, more than 50,000 children have received a brand new bed.

To be considered to receive a bed from the Hope to Dream Program, parents or guardians of deserving children between the ages of 3-16 and in need of a new bed should contact the Salvation Army at (219) 887-6588, Monday – Friday between the hours of 1 – 5 p.m. Awarded families will be notified and the beds will be picked up the day of the jamboree at the Salvation Army.
