The honorary naming of 1500 Maryland street to “Dorothy King Drive” took place on June 16th, with family, friends, residents of the 4th District, elected and appointed officials attending. Mayor Eddie Melton declared June 16th as “Dorothy King Day” in Gary. The proclamation was read by a representative of the Community Relations Department of the city.
Attesting to the outstanding life of Dorothy King was State Representative Vernon G. Smith, the Gary Crusader Publisher Dorothy R. Leavell and family members. The tribute was sponsored by New Frontier Ventures Corp and the family of Dorothy King.

King Jr., CEO and Founder of New Frontier Ventures Corp. said, “Dorothy King was more than an advocate; she was a voice for the voiceless, a force for progress, and a champion for equity and civic engagement.
