Methodist Hospitals names new DAISY Award winners in November

Valentine Sanchez and Michelle Jeffers

The Daisy Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day.

One nurse from each campus is honored with this award three times a year. Patients and visitors may nominate a deserving nurse by filling out a nomination form and dropping it in the special counter top displays at the front desks and inpatient units. Each Daisy Award Honoree is recognized at a public ceremony in her or his unit and receives a certificate of recognition, a DAISY award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled Heart’s Touch. Methodist is proud to announce the second winners of the DAISY Award.

• Valentine Sanchez, RN, 3 South Pavilion, Northlake Campus. Val-entine lives in Crown Point, IN.

• Michelle Jeffers, RN, 4W3 Oncology Unit, Southlake Campus. Michelle lives in Griffith, IN.

Methodist Hospitals is a Daisy Award Partner. “This partnership reflects our commitment to providing the best patient experience by recognizing nurses that demonstrate not only extraordinary clinical skill, but compassion in the care they provide to our patient each and every day,” said Shelly Major, Chief Nursing Officer at Methodist Hospitals.

About the Daisy Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. DAISY is an acronym for disease attacking the immune system. During Pat’s 8 week hospitalization, his family experienced the best in nursing care and compassion provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family. So one of the goals they set in creating a foundation in Pat’s memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses and to thank them for the gifts nurses give their patients and families every day, just as they had experienced.
