“It is with deep sadness that I announce the death this afternoon (Wednesday, August 10) of Katie Hall Educational Foundation Board member, Mr. Maurice J. Preston, Sr., said Junifer Hall, Chairman and CEO of the Foundation. On July 9, 2016, Mr. Preston, age 94, traveled with his wife, Jean and son, Maurice J. Preston, Jr. to attend the “Katie Hall Day” Ecumenical Service in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. During this trip, Mr. Preston had the opportunity to re-visit the historic and family homestead in Mound Bayou, coupled with the National Civil Rights Museum (Lorraine Motel), the site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s tragic 1968 assassination in Memphis, TN.
Mr. Maurice J. Preston, Sr. is a member of The Hall Family – he was a cousin of Katie Hall Educational Foundation Board Chief Legal Counsel, Deacon – Attorney John Henry Hall, Ed.D., LL.M., and Katie Hall Educational Foundation Board members – Junifer Hall, Jacqueline D. Hall, Kristina Harris, Monica J. Hall, and Calzona J. Hall, Sr.
