GSU Dance Festival 2017 gets inspiration from Prince 

The GSU Dance Company’s annual Dance Festival takes the stage  March 4 at 7:30 p.m. with Inspired by Prince. This dance festival showcase celebrates Prince’s legacy and that of other musicians like Andra Day, A.R. Rahman, Alka Yagnik & Ila Arun.

Governors State University students are inspired by the music of Prince and others, and celebrate during this performance with a variety of dance disciplines including jazz, contemporary, African, modern, and hip-hop.

The man who made Purple Rain a household name, the legendary Prince, was inspired by icons like James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson. His rhythms, style and voice captivated a nation.

Patrons will enjoy stunning choreography by Director Megan Lindsay and featured work from GSU student dancers: Christal Burton, Isabella Hollingsworth, Courtney Heiskell, Tyra Barnes, Catherine Bernhardt, Tashona Butts,Tianna Smith, Saiye Pierre, Kerby Wells, A’daja Hampton, Miyah Booker, Nia C Brown, Ashanti Harris, Tamond Hill and Marlin Pierre. A guest performance by Fatal Dance Academy, Dance Expressions Dance Studio and Dunamis Dance Team will also be featured.

The performance is open to the public and tickets are $15 and $10 for students with valid I.D. at the Box Office, 1 University Parkway, University Park, IL. Parking is free.
